Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington

From Billy Watson, for About.com

Gorge Amphitheatre Overview: The outdoor amphitheater is often referred to as the Gorge in George because of its location near the city of George, Washington (approximately 150 miles east on I-90 from Seattle). The outdoor amphitheater hosts some of the biggest concerts, especially during the summer and can accommodate up to 20,000 people. Readers of Pollstar magazine have voted it the best major outdoor concert venue in North America nine of the past ten years.
Gorge Amphitheatre Seating and Ticket Information: The box office at the front gate is only open the day of show, starting at 1 pm. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster for all shows. The Gorge also offers Season and Box Seating through the House of Blues Marquee Club. Reserved seating in folding chairs exists near the stage. The closest seating (Golden Circle) is more expensive. General Admission seating is not assigned and is all on grass. The terraced lawn is just behind the reserved seating with lawn festival seating behind that.
Gorge Amphitheatre Location and Directions: The Gorge Amphitheatre is located in Quincy, Washington at 754 Silica Road NW. The remote concert location (a little over 2 hours from Seattle) is easy to find once you exit the freeway, follow the frequent brown WSDOT signs for about 7 miles.
  • From Seattle:: Take I-90 east to exit #143.
  • From Tacoma:: Take I-5 north to WA-18 east (exit #142A). After 28 miles, merge on to I-90 east and take it to exit #143.
  • From Spokane:: Take I-90 west to exit #149.
Gorge Amphitheatre Parking:
The parking lot opens at 10 am on the day of the show with signs leading to designated handicap parking areas. The consumption of alcoholic beverages in the parking lot is prohibited, and the rules are strictly enforced.
Premier Parking is available for $25 per vehicle with easy convenience access and exit from the parking lot, and access to the early entry line. Premier Parking patrons can access the adjacent beer garden and purchase a special $5.00 combo beer/hot dog package.
Gorge Amphitheatre Amenities:
Food: Food is available in the Gorge Plaza, which has a stage that showcases local talent. Factory sealed water bottles and outside food are allowed, but must be in clear plastic bags.
Alcohol: There is a beer garden outside the gates, adjacent to the parking lot. Beer and wine are permitted during concerts before sunset or 15 minutes after main act takes the stage, but must be purchased as outside alcoholic beverages are not allowed.
Gorge Amphitheatre Campground: Many concert-goers stay at the Gorge Campground. It is a great place to stay the night after a concert to avoid traffic and the long drive back to the city. The campground features comfort stations with potable water, on-site security, a convenience store on site, and hot showers and sinks. It is usually a party-like environment after a concert and costs $40 per vehicle per night. It is sometimes required to purchase camping privileges for multiple day events.
Things to Know Before You Go:
  • The best General Admission seats are taken by those in the early entry line. You can pick up a coupon to access the early entry gate in the beer garden before the show or by purchasing Preferred Parking.
  • Weather conditions are extreme, so bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses for the day, and a sweater or jacket and a flashlight for after dark.
  • General Admission patrons may bring a small blanket, cushion, or a low lawn chair. Lawn chairs are not allowed for all General Admission events.
