The University of Washington Alumni Association has several events planned for UW Homecoming Week 2006 from October 22nd to 29th. Events include the 21st Annual Dawg Dash, the traditional Homecoming Rally leading up to the Homecoming game on Saturday.Some of the events require pre-registration and/or have a participation fee. More information is available from the UW Alumni Association.

Supreme Court Hears Case on Seattle Schools Student Assignment Plan
A Seattle district's student assignment plan that takes the student's race into account is one of two cases being heard by the United States Supreme Court involving race and public education. The Washington State Supreme Court previously ruled that the assignment plan does not violate the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause.

Tacoma School Consolidation Proposals
Tacoma Public Schools is holding a community meeting at the Central Administration Building (601 S. 8th St.) on July 20 at 6 pm. The creators of 10 community-generated school consolidation proposals will be allowed five minutes each to explain their suggestions. The district plans to make recommendations in January 2007 and implement their plan beginning in the 2007-08 school-year.

Seattle Public Schools Community Advisory Committee
A 14-member Community Advisory Committee was appointed in July 2005. The committee collaborated for six months to develop recommendations on establishing fiscal stability in support of academic achievement for Seattle Public Schools. They released a final report in February 2006. They were asked to address several areas including communicating to and receiving input from the public.
