Spring Awakening
This Tacoma event is not for the overly modest as it deals with the salacious topic of sexuality. Specifically, this winner of eight Tony awards deals with a set of teenagers in nineteenth-century Germany discovering their own sexuality on their own and with others. The story is based on an 1891 play, which was extremely controversial in its own time and was banned in Germany. The musical score centers on rock music by Duncan Sheik and has lyrics by Steven Sater.
