The best Tacoma pizza restaurants

Kristin Kendle

The best Tacoma pizza restaurants are there for you whether you want a tasty lunch buffet, delivery to kick back with over a movie, or even a restaurant to head to with friends or a date. No matter why a pizza is in your future, you won’t be disappointed by the array of delicious pies to be found in T-town.

While a number of chain pizza places in Tacoma offer solid pizza choices, these are the more obvious places to go that need no introduction. The best Tacoma pizza places below break out of the chain mold and offer something special.

The Rock Wood Fired Pizza & Spirits
The Rock is one of the best Tacoma pizza restaurants due to its interesting flavor combinations, expansive menu of pizza and more, but also for its affordability. Head to the lunch buffet until 1:30 p.m. each day for a super reasonable lunch (soda or microbrew included). A nice selection of microbrews and cocktails make The Rock just that much better and this is a great place to head for happy hour too. This restaurant is right next to The Swiss so this area can be a great place to hang out for the night.

Abella Pizzeria
A distinctly chewy crust make Abella a great lunch spot in downtown Tacoma. The pesto and artichoke pizza is one of the best here, but you’ll also find the usual run of standard pies (cheese, pepperoni, BBQ chicken). The lunch special here is perfect for a cheap meal for two.

Adriatic Grill
Formerly Cucina Cucina, this restaurant by the Tacoma Mall is not pizza specific, but if you want a sit-down dinner in a nice (but still casual) atmosphere and you want a pizza—this is a fine place to go. Unique pizzas like the Pesto Shrimp are complemented by classics like the Margherita, and the menu has a range of other Italian fare. The bar area also offers a happy hour.

Garlic Jim’s
This place on 6th Avenue is delivery only, and it’s hands down the best delivery in town. The crust here is very good, and the toppings range from standard to very unique (almonds or coconut, anyone?). The specialty pizzas here are delicious, but if you want to get pizza on the cheap, ordering online or with a coupon can get you a one-topping wonder. Unlike many one-topping pizzas, you have your choice of six sauces and can choose from the full menu of gourmet toppings.

Cloverleaf Pizza
Long one of the best Tacoma pizza places, the Cloverleaf has a thin, slightly crispy, and almost greasy crust—and it’s delicious. Toppings are fresh and you’ll find a nice array of pizzas on the menu. Most of their specialty pizzas have meat, but there are plenty of veggie toppings too. Don’t expect lightening quick service. Come here to kick back, relax, maybe have a beer, and enjoy the pizza. There is a family area even though this place has more of a bar or tavern feel.

Puget Sound Pizza
One of the Tacoma-area pizza place favorites for a while now, Puget Sound Pizza doesn’t look impressive from the outside in its Stadium District locale. The pizza is awesome, has an array of fresh toppings and lots of them, and super thin crust. PSP serves as a great nightlife spot too if you want a place to hang out, or do some karaoke. Perhaps surprisingly, this pizza place is also one of the top breakfast places in Tacoma.

Upper Crust Bistro & Bakery
If you want a place where you can take your time and enjoy cute atmosphere, Upper Crust in North Tacoma is perfect. The service can be slow, so don’t come here starving. The pizzas and calzones are delicious, as are the many baked goods here. The menu is completely organic, too, and the kitchen is open. Surrounding Upper Crust are several cute shops and the Proctor District is also nearby.

Katie Downs
Located right on the scenic Waterfront, Katie Downs is likely the most beautifully situated pizza place in Tacoma. The ingredients are fairly standard with a few twists that add some flare to the pizzas. Bay shrimp are featured on a few of the specialty pizzas, and you can order a small personal pan pizza with a side of fries or salad for under $10.
