Black Friday arrives each year on the day after Thanksgiving and with it comes a bevy of sales, deals, and specials galore! Whether you’re after an HDTV or a pair of jeans, Black Friday sales abound and you can likely find a great deal on almost anything. The catch? Many of the best sales take place at the crack of dawn (or well before it). For many, the holidays don’t really start until after this day of big sales kicks off the season.
If you can drag yourself out of bed the morning after your Thanksgiving extravaganza, the deals may just be worth it and are a great way to kick off the holidays. Black Friday shopping hours vary from store to store, so make sure to check before you show up. In Seattle and Tacoma, look to the area’s many malls and stand-alone big-box stores for the best deals.
Black Friday Deals and Sales
Door buster sales are the best Black Friday sales by far. These are the deals that require you to be up at an ungodly hour (or stay up late) and most likely wait in a line wrapping around the store. While these change from year to year, department stores and big-box stores are surefire bets for the best door busters. Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, JCPenney, Sears, and Macy’s are prime examples of where you’ll find great deals in the Seattle-Tacoma area.
Each year, the deals begin to leak out online in the weeks preceding the big day. Make sure to strategize a bit about where to go, and which sales are most worth the wait in line.

Shopping Centers and Malls
In Seattle, there are many malls, shopping centers, stand-alone stores, and outlet malls to head to for the sales. Pacific Place and Westlake Center make great options downtown, but in Seattle’s surrounding cities, shopping centers like Northgate Mall and Southcenter are large and have many stores within their walls.
In Tacoma, the Tacoma Mall area is the most popular place to head on Black Friday, but there are several other mall areas located in other towns surrounding Tacoma.
Wal-Mart is one of the biggest participants on Black Friday, but you won't find any Wal-Marts within the city limits of either Seattle or Tacoma. You will have to look to the suburbs. Wal-Marts are located in Lynnwood, Everett, Renton, Federal Way, Lakewood, Puyallup, and Auburn.
